Government announcement: Providing better financial assistance for Québec families

The Québec government announced, while presenting its 7 November 2019 Update on Québec's Economic and Financial Situation, an increase in the annual maximum and minimum Family Allowance amounts. The changes will show on payments made as of January 2020.

Québec families will now receive the same Family Allowance amount for each child, regardless of the child's rank in the family.

Family Allowance calculation

The Family Allowance amount a family receives varies from one family to the next based on family income. Therefore, the higher the family income is, the lower the Family Allowance amount it receives, to the minimum amount.

Please note that Family Allowance is a form of financial assistance paid to all eligible families with children under age 18 living with them.

Consult the Ministère des Finances' press release This link will open in a new window. (PDF) and our Amount and payment of Family Allowance Web page for further details. Use the Ministère des Finances' calculator to estimate the gains resulting from the enhancements announced by the government since 2018, particularly with regard to Family Allowance.
