Contributions to the Québec Pension Plan

Workers age 18 and over whose earnings exceed $3500 must contribute to the Québec Pension Plan. The minimum has been $3500 since 1998.

In 2023, you cannot contribute on any earnings over $66 600.

More than 4 000 000 Quebeckers contribute to the Plan.

All workers age 18 and over must contribute to the Plan.

In January 2019, the enhancement to the Québec Pension Plan came into effect, which resulted in the introduction of an additional plan and the payment of additional contributions. Therefore, the total contribution rate for 2023 is 12.80 %, that is, 10.80 % for the basic plan and 2.00 % for the additional plan. The rates apply to the portion of employment earnings between the basic exemption and the maximum pensionable earnings. The employee and the employer each pay half of the contributions to the Plan. Self-employed workers must pay the entire amount.

The Québec Pension Plan's assets are managed by the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec.

As at 31 December 2018, the Plan's assets were more than 73 billion $.

You must have contributed for at least one year.
