In January 2026, the contribution rate for the base plan of the Québec Pension Plan (QPP) decreased from 10.8% to 10.6%. The decrease leads to a decrease in contributions, for all Québec workers, that can reach $142 per year. Despite the decrease, all benefits under the QPP continue being paid.

The Rapport actuariel modifiant l’Évaluation actuarielle du Régime de rentes du Québec au 31 décembre 2024 (Actuarial report modifying the actuarial valuation of the Québec Pension Plan as at 31 December 2024; French only) shows that

  • the QPP remains in good financial health;
  • despite the reduced financial room, the projected cash inflows remain sufficient to fund the QPP’s cash outflows for each of the 50 years in the projection period;
  • the probability that the automatic adjustment mechanism will be triggered at least once over the next 20 years has increased from 54% to 64%. This would result in an increase in the contribution rate.

The actuarial work is essential to ensure adequate funding of the QPP and for the benefits provided to be paid to Québec workers.
