Absence by period

Absence by period

Enter the number of days of your periods of absence in this section if one of the following situations applies to you:

  • You know the dates of your periods of absence without pay.
  • Your absences ended in the current or previous year.
  • Your days of absence that can be bought back are shown on your Statement of Participation by period of service.

Beginning and end date

If the days of absence are shown on your Statement of Participation by period of service, as in the example below, please enter your periods of absence using the method described below:

You must always enter 1 January as the starting date and 31 December as the end date. However, if a number of days of absence is shown in the column headed <1982/07/01, enter the approximate date that corresponds to the start of your contributory period. The date must be between 30 June 1973 and 30 June 1982.

Type of absence

Select « absence without pay, parental leave » or «  compassionate care leave ».

Parental leaves or compassionate care leaves are:

  • a maternity, paternity or adoption leave, that were in progress on 1 January  1991 or that began after that date.
  • compassionate care leaves that were in progress on 1 January 2012 or that began after that date.

If the parental or compassionate care leaves ended before the dates mentioned above, select absence without pay.

A period of absence can be considered an absence without pay provided all the following conditions are met:

  • It must be provided for in your conditions of employment.
  • It must be authorized by your employer, except for a period of absence resulting from a strike, a lockout or a disciplinary suspension.
  • You must not have received any remuneration during the period in question.
  • You would or could have worked had it not been for the absence.
