Would you like to know the amount of your retirement pension under a public-sector pension plan when you retire? Throughout your career, Retraite Québec sends you various personalized documents that provide an overview of the pension amount to which you could be entitled upon retirement. That amount can vary from one document to another, depending on the period during which the documents are produced, changes in your situation and various factors.

Projected pension amount that changes according to different eligibility requirements

Your pension amount:

  • changes throughout your career;
  • takes into account the most recent information provided by the employers concerned for a year ending on 31 December;
  • is projected until you meet different eligibility criteria;
  • is calculated with the assumption that your employment information will remain the same until the date on which your employment ends (retirement date).

The document shows:

  • personalized retirement pension scenarios based on your age when you retire and the number of years of service;
  • scenarios based on different eligibility requirements

Estimate of your benefits

Projected pension amount that is estimated based on the desired retirement date

Your pension amount:

  • is estimated and becomes more precise once Retraite Québec receives the final employment information provided by the employers concerned after you retire;
  • takes into account the most recent information provided by the employers concerned at the time of the application;
  • is projected until the retirement date that you indicated;
  • is calculated with the assumption that your employment information will remain the same until the retirement date you indicated on your application.
  • an estimate of your retirement pension based on a specific retirement date of your choice.

Sent after we receive your Application for a Pension Estimate.

Your Options

Preliminary pension amount, not the projected amount based on the desired retirement date

Your pension amount:

  • is lower than the amount shown on the Estimate of your benefits document, for you to avoid having to repay overpayments to Retraite Québec;
  • takes into account the information provided by the employers concerned the year (or up to two years) before your application;
  • will be adjusted upwards once Retraite Québec receives your final employment information from the employers concerned after the date on which your employment ends (retirement date).

The document shows:

  • various pension payment options based on the retirement date you agreed upon with your employer.

Important: You have 30 days to return the document to Retraite Québec.

Sent after we receive your Application for a Retirement Pension. The Your Options reply form is uploaded automatically to My Account. You can file it online.

Confirmation of your retirement pension

1 - Payment of your preliminary pension amount
2 - Payment of your official pension amount

You receive the preliminary pension amount indicated on the document entitled Your Options until we confirm your official pension amount (step 2).

We will send you a written confirmation after we receive the Your Options reply form. You will be able to track your application in My Account.

You receive your official pension amount, which was adjusted upwards, each month during your retirement; anda retroactive amount in one lump-sum payment to which you are entitled since you began receiving the preliminary pension amount.

  • Your pension amount takes into account the final information provided by the employers concerned after the date on which your employment ends (retirement date).

We will send you a written confirmation after we receive your final employment information from the employers concerned after the date on which your employment ends.

Various factors may change the pension amount indicated on each of your personalized documents

Throughout your career:

  • periods of absence;
  • a temporary employment status;
  • a change in employment group;
  • disability, etc.

During retirement:

  • the annual indexation of your pension: you will receive calculation details of the last indexation in your Statement of Benefits – Your Pension, which you can consult in My Account
  • legislative and regulatory amendments can be made to the provisions of your pension plan (e.g., a retroactivity).
