Do you really know everything about Family Allowance payments?

All eligible families with dependent children under age 18 receive Family Allowance. Do you know the details of this financial assistance? For example, did you know that you can see the amounts of your payments in My Account?

Family Allowance and, if applicable, the Supplement for Handicapped Children and the Supplement for Handicapped Children Requiring Exceptional Care are paid 4 times a year, on the scheduled payment dates, that is:

• in July for July, August and September;
• in October for October, November and December;
• in January for January, February and March;
• in April for April, May and June.

If you would like to receive your payments on a monthly basis, you must apply for a change in payment frequency.

Furthermore, eligible families automatically receive the Supplement for the Purchase of School Supplies every year in July at the same time as the Family Allowance payment.

In order to receive Family Allowance payments, you and your spouse must have filed your income tax returns. You must file them even if you have no income to declare because the calculation of the Family Allowance amount takes into account the family income reported to Revenu Québec. The amount is recalculated once a year and adjusted when it is paid in July. If your conjugal status or custody situation changes during the year, you must inform us for the amount of your Family Allowance to be recalculated.
