I am leaving Québec with my family
Are you receiving Family Allowance payments in your name? To remain eligible for this financial assistance, you must live in Québec.
If you leave Québec for 183 days or less per year and you maintain residential ties with Québec (civic address, job, taxes, etc.), you do not need to inform us of your absence. You remain eligible for Family Allowance. For example, your stay outside Canada is considered temporary when you leave the country to work, study or travel and maintain your residential ties in Québec.
However, if you leave for 183 days or more per year and/or no longer have residential ties in Québec, you must inform us as soon as possible. That way, you will avoid receiving Family Allowance overpayments and having to repay them. Retraite Québec will determine whether your eligibility for this financial assistance is maintained during your absence.
Are you leaving Québec permanently?
If you are leaving Québec permanently and you do not maintain residential ties, you are no longer eligible for Family Allowance. You must inform us by telephone. Therefore, you will avoid receiving Family Allowance overpayments and having to repay them.
