Évolution de l'épargne au Québec de 1999 à 2005

(Savings in Québec from 1999 to 2005; French only)

To help Quebeckers with financial planning for retirement, the Régie wanted to better understand how their assets and debts have changed. To do so, it compiled data from the Survey of Financial Security conducted in 2005 by Statistics Canada and then compared that data with data from 1999.

The first section explains how the assets and debts of Quebeckers changed between 1999 and 2005. It provides details on total, median and average amounts and on the percentage of households with holdings in each category of assets and debts. The study also sheds light on the impact of each of these categories on total assets and debts.

In the second section, the assets and debts of Quebeckers are compared with those of households in the rest of Canada. The comparison includes total amounts as well as average and median amounts per household.

The third and final section takes a closer look at the changes in private pension assets in Québec between 1999 and 2005. The study closes by comparing the situation in Québec with that in the rest of Canada for 2005.
